JAKARTA - An earthquake rocked the region Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra. Earthquake happened two times, each measuring 5.3 and 5.2 on the Richter Scale (SR).
Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the first 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at approximately 0:04 pm with the first quake's epicenter was 147 kilometers south-east on the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, at a depth of 32 kilometers.
While the second quake measuring 5.2 magnitude occurred at 0:14 pm and was centered 146 kilometers southeast Mentawai Islands, with a depth of 22 kilometers.
The second quake was not potential to cause a tsunami. While, there are no reports of damage from the quake.
Previously, Mentawai Islands region is touted as the earthquake-prone region. Mentawai also rocked by an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale (SR) on Saturday, July 6 last approximately 12:30 pm. The earthquake made people panic and jump out of the house to escape.
